VETUS BOW PRO with Suzuki integrated steering

Suzuki's integrated-steering outboards build the steering cylinder into the engine itself. Add an Ultraflex Integra JS joystick and a VETUS BOW PRO, and engines, steering and thruster answer to one stick. Suzuki and VETUS announced the partnership in October 2025.

HOW SUZUKI'S SYSTEM WORKS

Steering inside the engine, every engine steering itself

Most outboards are steered by an external hydraulic ram and a tie bar. Suzuki's Integrated Steering System puts a rack-and-pinion hydraulic cylinder inside the DF350AMD and DF300BMD, so there's no external ram on the transom. Suzuki first showed the engines at Genoa in 2022, and Suzuki Australia offered them from mid-2023.

Because each outboard has its own steering actuator, a joystick can point every engine independently. Push the stick sideways and the controller angles the engines and sets their gear and throttle so their thrust adds up to a sideways push; twist it and the boat rotates on the spot.

The Ultraflex Integra JS is the joystick VETUS names for this integration. Australian retailers list Boost, Heading and Trim functions, with a GPS position hold (Mainstay) when you add Veratron's Nav Sensor.

WHAT THE BOW PRO BRINGS

A bow that moves when the stern does

Outboards push from the transom, so on their own they swing the stern more easily than they move the bow. A proportional thruster at the front evens that out. Suzuki says the collaboration gives full compatibility between all VETUS BOW PRO thrusters and its integrated-steering outboards through a single joystick, and pitches it at docking in wind and current and at busy ramps.

  • Single and multi-engine: VETUS states the integration works on both. Suzuki's own announcement doesn't specify, so we confirm for your setup.
  • Direct connection: VETUS's wiring diagrams plug V-CAN straight into the Ultraflex controller's IoT port. If that port is taken, NMEA 2000 through a CANverter (CANV2N2) is the alternative.
  • Smooth response: VETUS President Christopher DeBoy describes BOW PRO's contribution as smooth, proportional response.
  • Own panel as backup: a VETUS proportional panel can run the thruster on its own.
HOW GOOD IS IT?

Promising, and very new

The VETUS and Suzuki integration was announced in October 2025, and we haven't found an independent boat test of it yet. Here's what we can say from the engines, the joystick and the thruster on their own.

What works well

  • Integrated steering removes the external ram and tie bar, which tidies the transom and gives each engine independent control.
  • Boatnews tested Suzuki's own joystick on these engines in 2023 and found it worked like a conventional joystick and fitted neatly on the dash.
  • Suzuki points to its contra-rotating propellers for extra grip at low speed.
  • One stick for engines and thruster, with optional GPS position hold.

Things to know

  • Only the DF350AMD and DF300BMD have integrated steering; other Suzuki outboards don't qualify.
  • Single-engine and RIMDRIVE support are VETUS statements; we confirm both against your engine before you order.
  • GPS position hold needs an extra sensor.
  • Neither Suzuki Australia nor VETUS has made a local announcement yet. Until recently, Australian joystick options for Suzuki outboards didn't include a thruster (boatsales, Feb 2024).
OUR TAKE

If you're repowering with DF350AMD or DF300BMD outboards, it's worth planning the BOW PRO and joystick at the same time so the network is set up once. For anything else, a BOW PRO with its own proportional panel gives you the thruster benefits today.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

The Suzuki, Ultraflex and VETUS parts

Based on VETUS's January 2026 integration diagrams. We confirm the final list with VETUS and your Suzuki dealer.

  • SUZUKIDF350AMD or DF300BMD integrated-steering outboards
  • ULTRAFLEXIntegra JS joystick and controller, plus the Veratron Nav Sensor if you want GPS hold
  • VETUSBOW PRO thruster sized for your boat (the diagrams show BOW PRO Boosted)
  • VETUSCANVM12A cable to the controller's IoT port, or a CANV2N2 CANverter if that port is in use; V-CAN hub, cables, terminators and power supply
  • OPTIONALVETUS BPPJA joystick or BPPPA paddle panel for separate thruster control

Running or planning DF350AMD or DF300BMD power?

Tell us the boat, the engines and whether you have a joystick now. We'll spec the BOW PRO and the network to suit.
